Are you looking for a different way to get your kids outside in the fresh air, learning, developing and taking on new challenges this summer? We have some great Kids Sailing Courses set up for this summer. Throughout these courses not only will your child achieve their RYA Sailing qualifications we will also inspire and help young people to develop their self-esteem, confidence, motivation and teamwork skills – all essential attributes for personal development.
Kids RYA Sailing Courses at Hove Lagoon & Brighton Marina kids can learn to sail at Hove Lagoon from the age of 6 with the RYA Learn to Sail Stage 1 & Stage 2 courses. From age 8 kids can then complete their RYA Learn to Sail Stage 3 & Stage 4 on the sea from Brighton Marina. Kids age 10 plus may wish to consider our RYA Level 1&2 Youth Coastal Sailing Course on the sea from Brighton Marina. Furthermore we will be running regular sessions for children to practice their sailing from the Marina throughout the summer

RYA Kids Sailing Stage 1 & 2 at Hove Lagoon
The RYA Kids Sailing Stage 1 course will introduce a basic understanding of how a boat sails. Kids Stage 1 Information, times and dates.
Course Content Includes:
- Basic sailing with some experience of steering and handling the boat
- Launching and recovery
- Parts of the boat
- Basic sailing
The RYA Kids Sailing Stage 2 course is to improve basic sailing skills and become a more confident sailor. Kids Stage 2 Information, times and dates.
Course Content Includes:
- Improve basic sailing skills
- Ropework
- Collision avoidance and turning
RYA Kids Sailing Stage 3 & 4 at Brighton Marina
The RYA Kids Sailing Stage 3 course will get you sailing faster and more efficiently. At the end of this course you will be able to competently rig and sail a dinghy round a triangle in suitable conditions. Kids Stage 3 Information, times and dates.
Course Content Includes:
- Rigging
- Mooring and under power
- Sailing techniques as helm and crew
- Capsize recovery
- Sailing theory
The RYA Kids Sailing Stage 4 course will improve your sailing skills further so that you will not only be able to crew or helm a single or double handed boat. At the end of the course you will be able to competently set up and sail a dinghy round a triangle in suitable conditions to the level where we would allow children members to hire on the sea. - Rigging, mooring and under power manoeuvres
- Sailing techniques and manoeuvres in crewed boats
- Recovering a man overboard
RYA Kids Coastal Sailing Level 1 & 2 from Brighton Marina
RYA Kids Coastal Sailing Stage 1 & 2
We run a kids RYA level 1 & 2 Dinghy Course on the sea in our Laser Stratus’ from Brighton Marina for older children over 12. On this course children will learn rigging, tacking, gybing and sailing across, down and up wind as crew and as a helm. At the end of the course you will understand how to sail a boat and be able to tack and control the boat at some speed out at sea. Kids Coastal Sailing Stage 1 & 2 Information, times and dates.

- Basic sailing practicing steering and handling the boat
- Learning parts of the boat
- Ropework
- Collision avoidance and turning
Practice Sessions at Brighton Marina
There is a notable transition between RYA Level 2 Youth Sailing on the Lagoon and RYA Level 3 Youth Sailing out at sea. We therefore advise that if your child is going onto complete their RYA Dinghy Stage 3 & 4, that they attend our practice sessions at Brighton Marina. The practice sessions are also very useful for the transition between RYA Sailing Stage 3 to Stage 4.
